About Roberta

Born in London and raised on New York’s Upper East Side, Roberta Freymann has always been passionate about two things; travel and fashion. She credits her mother, a muse to the French designer Jacques Fath, for her exotic flair and her father for her love of discovery.  But it wasn’t until she traveled to North Africa for a family vacation that she discovered the true depth of this love as well as her affinity for global style.  She remembers her first trip to the souks and markets of Morocco where she collected as much as the donkeys could carry!  Returning home with all her treasures, the dream of one day opening up her own bazaar was born.

This dream didn’t come to fruition overnight. Prior to starting her own line, Roberta headed a multimillion dollar knitwear business with clients such as Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barney’s, & Harvey Nichols, designed for Bill Blass, bought for Ann Taylor and led Laura Ashley’s expansion into Latin America. In 1996, finally ready to launch her own design company, Roberta opened a shopping haven in an Upper East Side brownstone pioneering both a craze for pashmina scarves and exotic one-of-a-kind accessories.

Roberta’s gracious personality, unique fashion finds, and signature global style quickly developed an avid following and the brand began to rapidly outgrow its bohemian beginnings.  She continued to expand her offering of women's ready-to-wear, outerwear, jewelry and accessories, all designed and discovered by Roberta in exotic destinations. What began as one woman’s passion to experience the world and exacting eye for style has transformed into the vibrant world of Roberta Freymann.

Roberta continues to embrace her wanderlust more than ever. Traveling each year to over ten countries, she creates and manufactures her designs in partnership with local artisans.  Over the years, she has developed longstanding relationships with knitters in Northern Argentina, hand block printers and jewelers in India, cashmere purveyors in Nepal, as well as a wide array of craftsmen from Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Peru.  She explains, “I truly love what I do!  It’s rewarding to see my fascination with different cultures and affinity for handicraft develop into a successful business with a wonderful clientele.”
